HOYA Vision Care Shares Evidence at the 15th EAOO Conference 2024, Aiming to Build Confidence in Myopia Management

Symposium aims to boost Eye Care Professionals’ confidence in MiYOSMART spectacle lenses.

BANGKOK – 14 May 2024HOYA Vision Care, a leader in optical technology innovation, took part in the 15th annual conference of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO) held on the 10-12th May 2024 in Helsinki, Finland. Honouring their commitment to share knowledge and technical advances in the field of myopia management, HOYA Vision Care, a platinum event sponsor, hosted a satellite symposium, Confidence through Evidence – MiYOSMART in Daily Practice.

The symposium was commenced with a talk by Dr Rakhee Shah, Global Scientific and Medical Affairs Manager at HOYA Vision Care, who spoke of the importance of credible evidence for patients, parents and Eye Care Professionals (ECPs) in myopia management. Dr Shah also shared the six key areas to empower ECPs to meet the diverse needs of their patients.

Professor Kathryn Saunders, Subject Lead for Optometry & Vision Science at Ulster University, then shared her findings on the predictability of myopia progression in UK children aged 5-15 years old. The analysis found that the change in axial length within the first six months of MiYOSMART wear was significantly predictive of future axial elongation. Prof Saunders also reported that faster progression in axial length within the first six-months is likely to result in fast progression in the subsequent 12-months. Finally, she revealed that the progression in spherical equivalent refraction in the first six months was a poorer predictor of future myopia progression.

The symposium concluded with Marianne Goldwaser, Professional Affairs Manager at HOYA Vision Care, presenting the results of the Early Experience Programme (EEP), a post-marketing surveillance of MiYOSMART Chameleon photochromic spectacle lenses, for the first time at an international congress. The EEP was conducted between July 2023 and January 2024, and aimed to gain insights of the experience with MiYOSMART Chameleon directly from the patients. As such, the focus was on adaptation and tolerability in young patients of different ages and ethnicities, satisfaction and compliance, and outdoor behaviour.1 The stand-out statistics gathered by the EEP was patient satisfaction at the 3-month milestone, showing that 98% (n=55) of wearers in the programme were satisfied with their MiYOSMART Chameleon spectacle lenses.1 This high satisfaction rate is likely to translate to higher treatment adherence, both indoors and outdoors, which in turn has the potential of maximizing the effectiveness of myopia management in children.

Over seven million MiYOSMART spectacle lenses have been sold worldwide since their launch in 2018.2 HOYA Vision Care is committed to fighting and controlling the growing problem of myopia around the world by continually conducting evidence-based research on the MiYOSMART spectacle lenses and sharing industry knowledge and professional insights in the field of myopia treatment.
